Compassion 10 Million is an opportunity for each Adventist member in North America to be involved in mission by becoming the Eyes, Heart, Hands, and Feet of Jesus inside and outside the walls of our homes and churches. It calls for Adventists across North America to collectively invest 10 million hours blessing our communities with intentional, repetitive, and relevant acts of love and service. This initiative provides the opportunity for everyone to be involved somehow. Preaching and teaching are also acts of compassion, yet not all of us may be able to preach or teach, but we can all reach.
Now, you may ask, 10 Million hours are too many hours, is this even possible? Of course it is, there are 1.2 million Adventists across the United States, Canada, Bermuda, and the islands of Guam and Micronesia. If each one makes a commitment to a lifestyle of love, kindness, and service, it would only take 8.3 hours per Adventist in North America to live a combined 10 Million hours of Compassion during 2016. If only 500,000 Adventists in North America made that commitment, it would take about 20 hours per person to Iive out 10 Million hours of Compassion as Adventists this year. 10 Million hours are just a motivation and a reminder of what we ought to do every single waking hour of our lives as followers of Jesus; compassion is what He did and now wants to do through each one of His followers.
How can it be done? By finding ways to be the Eyes, Heart, Hands, and Feet of Jesus wherever you are:
Personally, compassion needs to be personal first, every day at home, school, work, gym, play field, and on the streets. Watch out for opportunities to bless others with love, kindness, and service.
With your family, this is a providential way of modeling the ultimate lifestyle as a family. Find people in need, other families which need help, and serve them together, teaching the younger generations the spirit of Jesus.
Corporately, with your Church, your Adventist University, Academy, or School, looking for the needs of the surrounding community and exploring ways to intentionally fulfill those needs through the collaboration of the Ministries and Departments of the Church, as well as our schools.
Whether, personally, with your family, with your church or school, we ask you to join Adventists and friends across North America, as we bless all around us, like Jesus did, and become the people of Compassion. If we do:
Our communities will become better places,
Our members, of all ages and genders, will become active disciples in the mission of our church, and
Our churches will become healthier, vibrant community changers, and will grow.
